  National Grid Foundation recently made a gift of $125,000 to support Project Warmth, United Way of Long Island's Emergency Fuel Fund. An initiative of UWLI, Project Warmth enables residents who are facing heating and utilities emergencies to keep a warm and healthy home throughout this especially cold season. United Way of Long Island's VetsBuild Program provides training to our local heroes, at no cost, for green collar employment opportunities in energy efficiency, renewables, weatherization, Energy-Star construction, home performance, HVAC and home restoration. As part of their training, VetsBuild Students learn how to preform Home Energy Audits which could help home-owners save thousands of dollars.

    Long Beach, NY – New Orleans Saint Quaterback, Drew Brees, his wife Brittany and their Brees Dream Foundation have provided a $200,000 grant to United Way of Long Island to support residential rebuilding efforts across the region for families still recovering from Superstorm Sandy. United Way of Long Island has been chosen as a 2014 Long Island Imagine Awards Finalist. Over 100 nonprofits submitted applications to win a $5,000 grant in each of five categories: Innovation, Leadership Excellence, Rising Star, Social Entrepreneurism, and Social Impact. Of this pool of worthy applicants, 20 were selected as finalists and one in each category was awarded the grant.
