  Deer Park, NY (October 1, 2015) -- United Way of Long Island donated more than 75,000 school supplies through their Seventh Annual Stuff-A-Bus campaign. More than 4,000 students in Brentwood, Central Islip, Copiague, South Country, South Huntington and Wyandanch school districts benefited directly from the program, which was supported by individuals and over 50 businesses across Long Island.   The Third Annual Paddle Battle LI event was held on July 18th on the Peconic River in Riverhead and had nearly 200 participants, including nine, four person teams assembled for the first annual Paddle Battle Corporate Challenge. The family-friendly events included a 2.5-mile amateur race, a 5-mile competitive race, and a 12-mile elite class race. There were also pairs of two-person canoe and kayaks races. United Way of Long Island has received a $50,000 grant award from New York Homes and Community Renewal to operate the Residential Emergency Services to Offer (Home) Repairs to the Elderly (RESTORE) Program. The funds may be used to pay for the cost of emergency repairs to eliminate hazardous conditions in homes owned by the elderly when the homeowners cannot afford to make the repairs in a timely fashion.
