Long Island Insurance Community Raises Over $200,000 in Support of Long Islanders in Need

On September 18, the Long Island Insurance Company (LIIC) held its annual Gala at Carlyle on the Green in Bethpage raising $212,000 for United Way of Long Island and other deserving causes. More than 350 LIIC members joined together for the cause, participating in the evenings fundraising efforts in support of neighbors in need.

The LIIC gala annually honors industry and business leaders who have demonstrated a commitment to the community that has improved the quality of life for their neighbors. This year’s honoree was Jericho’s Peter N. Resnick, President of Interboro Insurance Co. in Mineola and Northeast Region Sales Director of UPC Insurance Co. in St. Petersburg, FL.

“I am extremely touched to be recognized by my peers in the Long Island Insurance Community for my philanthropic efforts,” said Resnick. “To receive an award for my involvement with causes that are close to my heart means the world to me. I hope to inspire all my colleagues to find an organization that they can connect with and give back.”

Patchogue’s Astrid Jara Palomino, who received a scholarship from the Camilla G. Belser Memorial Scholarship Fund, was featured as the evening's speaker. She spoke about coming to the United States at the age of 10, and how receiving the scholarship helped her accomplish her dream of becoming a registered nurse. The LIIC established the Camilla G. Belser Memorial Scholarship Fund on behalf of a colleague and friend designed to advance the educational goals of young people in need.

“United Way of Long Island is honored to have such staunch support from the Long Island Insurance Community,” said Theresa A. Regnante, President and CEO of United Way of Long Island. “As a result of this event over the years, students have had the opportunity to further their education, veterans have received critical services through Mission United and lives have truly been changed for the better.”

Established in 1995 the Long Island Insurance Community was developed as a vehicle for the Insurance Industry to give back to the community and to those less fortunate. Since that time they have raised more than $5 million for Long Island charities. The goal continues to be bringing the Insurance community together to change the lives of Long Islanders in need.  To learn more about the LIIC, visit www.L-I-I-C.org.
