GEICO’S United Way Giving Campaign Raises An Unprecedented $2 Million In Support Of Non-Profits

March 3, 2016 (Deer Park, NY) -- GEICO has proven that their four decades of giving to United Way of Long Island has been unwavering. John Pham, GEICO Regional Vice President and United Way of Long Island Board Member announced that the company’s Region II associates have pledged more than $1,000,000 through their payroll deduction giving campaign.

This gift is one of the leading employee supported donations in the history of United Way of Long Island’s giving campaigns.

The pledges are being supported by a 100% gift match through the GEICO Philanthropic Foundation, bringing the total tally to over $2,000,000. This contribution will make a significant impact, ensuring United Way of Long Island and other local nonprofit agencies are provided the support needed to continue to offer services and programs to Long Islanders in need.

Pham is enthusiastic when speaking of GEICO’s associates reaching a new donation plateau. He commented:  “Our team of associates is the most dedicated and passionate group you’ll ever meet, and the strong work ethic they bring to our office in Woodbury each day carries over to their deep commitment to philanthropy and community.  At GEICO we are all devoted to bettering the lives of our neighbors across Long Island the entire Empire State.  Raising over a record $1,000,000 via payroll deduction is remarkable, and shows just how much our associates care. I congratulate all of our associates who see the value of supporting United Way of Long Island.  As one of the top ten employers on Long Island, we’d love it if more companies can join us at this level- it makes such a difference for those who need it.”

GEICO, in addition to supporting the United Way of Long Island annual campaign through their associates and the GEICO Philanthropic Foundation, also sponsors many other programs and events throughout the year. GEICO is a loyal corporate contributor to Mission United. This financial backing coupled with volunteerism from GEICO associates has helped make Mission United, a United Way of Long Island project to assist returning military and veterans, continue to grow and thrive.

Theresa Regnante, President and CEO of United Way of Long Island understands the significance of what GEICO has accomplished. She said, “I want to take this opportunity to personally thank GEICO associates and the company’s Philanthropic Foundation for participating in a record-breaking campaign. Each year many associates pledge to donate to our Community Impact Fund, allowing the associate to make a direct impact on the most vulnerable individuals and families, including those with disabilites, seniors and children.”  She added, “For over forty years, GEICO associates have exhibited the compassion, philanthropic spirit, sense of volunteerism, and caring for those in need that makes them worthy of emulation by corporate employees across Long Island.”

GEICO’s Philanthropic Foundation 100% gift match also provides funds to the regional GCCC (GEICO Corporate Community Citizens). The GCCC was formed to encourage associates to participate in charitable work by volunteering to assist in programs, walks, sponsored events, or an emergency response that require much needed extra hands. Monetary contributions are made to the associate’s chosen nonprofit organizations as a reward for their volunteerism in their local communities.
