PSEG Long Island and IBEW Local 1049 Raise $225,000 in Support of United Way of Long Island and its Community Partners

Deer Park (May 17, 2016) – Combining the resources of a major corporation with dedicated and engaged employees and their union counterparts benefits all of Long Island. Thanks to a new, first-time partnership between PSEG Long Island and its partners from IBEW Local 1049, a noteworthy $225,000 has been raised to assist United Way of Long Island and its community partners.

Two United Way of Long Island Board Members, David Daly, PSEG Long Island president & COO, and Don Daley, Jr., business manager of IBEW Local 1049, AFL-CIO, combined their philanthropic knowledge and resources to launch the effective campaign.  Leading the successful effort was Erin Mullen, corporate supervisor of PSEG Long Island’s customer offices, who paid attention to every detail to ensure that the PSEG Long Island associates would achieve successful results. In response to going above and beyond, Erin received the PSEG REV Award of Achievement for Excellence in Volunteerism. With her award came a $3,000 contribution from PSEG Long Island to United Way of Long Island.

PSEG Long Island has been a proud corporate supporter of United Way of Long Island community initiatives. David Daly was pleased that employees were now able to share in the corporation’s fervor for United Way.

“Community involvement is a key part of PSEG Long Island’s mission, and our hardworking employees have a long history of supporting worthy causes,” said Daly. “We knew that a partnership with IBEW Local 1049 would prove to be successful, but it is still remarkable to see a first-time campaign raise $225,000. This sets a high bar, but I know we will achieve even greater things together.”

Don Daley, Jr. knew combining forces with PSEG Long Island to create a workplace campaign for United Way of Long Island would yield significant pledges. Daley, Jr. commented “Union employees across Long Island have been some of United Way of Long Island’s greatest supporters for many decades. When you take PSEG Long Island’s position as one of United Way of Long Island’s utmost corporate supporters and combine it with IBEW Local 1049’s member’s dedication to helping their neighbors, you have created a partnership that is unbeatable. A first time campaign raising $225,000 has certainly brightened the day of each member of our union who participated.”

“We are so inspired by success of this inaugural campaign,” said Theresa A. Regnante, President and CEO of United Way of Long Island.  “The remarkable response from PSEG Long Island and IBEW Local 1049 employees is evidence of how important it is to the residents of Long Island to support programs and services that help fellow Long Islanders.  The success of this campaign helps make it possible for our organization to continue to make a positive impact on more than 300,000 lives each year.”

PSEG Long Island gives continuous support year-round, including a $25,000 gift to United Way of Long Island’s Project Warmth. This Emergency Fuel Fund is a safety net for individuals and families who are unable to pay their heating bills. PSEG Long Island is also expanding their direct corporate support of United Way of Long Island through the PSEG Foundation. A $150,000 grant was recently made to support the enhancement of United Way’s 2-1-1 Long Island by developing a specialized section leading residents to information on Disaster & Storm Preparedness.  Each day Long Island residents dial 2-1-1 to have resource specialists guide them through more than 10,000 community programs available to those in need.
