Executive Vice President/COO of Flushing National Bank and Board Member of United Way of Long Island Honored at American Kidney Fund’s Annual Dinner The American Kidney Fund held its 8th Annual New York Golf Classic at the Hamlet Golf Club in Commack on Tuesday August 5th.  Among the Honorees was Maria Grasso, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Flushing Bank.   Maria is also a Board Member of United Way of Long island.  Maria took the microphone to accept the recognition she received from American Kidney Fund and delivered the evening’s most emotionally charged moment. ...

On January 29, NBC News and United Way of New York City launched a “Digital Donation Drive” to benefit those impacted by Hurricane Sandy. Modeled like a wedding registry, and in partnership with Amazon.com, select United Ways including United way of Long Island, registered for goods that were requested by community partners. The program highlighted how devastated communities continue to need support. Company Joins Operation Rebuild and Recovery to Help Long Island Resident Rescue Personal Belongings Deer Park, July 19th, 2013.  On June 28th, 2013, employees from Janssen Biotech left the air conditioned solitude of their offices to help one of their neighbors rescue belongings from a flooded storage unit he was using to guard personal items damaged and displaced by Hurricane Sandy. Company Joins Growing Number of Organizations Sending Staff to United Way of Long Island Operation Rebuild and Recovery Projects   Deer Park, July 9th, 2013.  As Operation Rebuild and Recovery continues, an increasing number of companies are answering the call and sending staff to devastated homes in towns such as Long Beach, Point Lookout, Freeport and Mastic Beach. Joins United Way of Long Island’s Operation Rebuild & Recovery Deer Park, NY, July 2nd 2013 – On June 12th & 13th United Way of Long Island welcomed employee volunteers from Liberty Mutual Insurance’s Valley Stream and Uniondale offices to Operation Rebuild & Recovery.  Staff members helped repair and restore the home of a Long Beach resident that was badly damaged by Superstorm Sandy.     United Way of Long Island’s YouthBuild program has teamed up with Starbucks to create a food sharing program that will prevent discarded food from becoming environmental waste, while providing meals for hungry YouthBuild students.   The food sharing program will commence in conjunction with a new Starbucks' location opening in North Babylon on July 1st.  As the store prepares to open, the partnership is also organizing a day of Community Service.
