$1,000,000 GRANT ESTABLISHES

THE LONG ISLAND RED CROSS FAMILY RECOVERY CENTER

What:
The American Red Cross Disaster Services has awarded a partnership grant of $1 million to the United Way of Long Island to help Long Island's families recover from Superstorm Sandy. The grant will expand the scope of services for families who are still facing extraordinary hardship. The grant supports the retention of 6 disaster case managers and 2 construction case managers to bolster the long term recovery needs of families impacted by the superstorm.

The lead organization for the project is the United Way of Long Island. The partner organizations include: Adelante of Suffolk County, Hispanic Brotherhood of Rockville Centre and La Fuerza Unida. All organizations are tax exempt 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organizations and have been operating relief and outreach services to support families impacted by the disaster.

To recognize the generous support of the American Red Cross we will host a Grand Opening and Naming Reception of the facility, "The Long Island Red Cross Family Recovery Center". The Center will support Long Islanders for whom on-the-ground community services remain a critical vehicle toward regaining normalcy in their lives.
