Healthy Community

Everyone deserves the opportunity to live their healthiest life. At United Way of Long Island, we help people overcome barriers to good health by improving access to nutritious food and quality health education and services, including preventative care, maternal and child health, mental health support, and more.

Ryan White Programs

With more than 6,000 resident living with HIV/AIDS, Long Island has the highest number of AIDS cases of any suburban area in the nation and more cases than in 26 states. United Way of Long Island is the technical support agency for three sources of federal funds to provide resources for people who are HIV positive.

SingleCare

For Long Islanders without health insurance or who are in need of medications not covered by their insurance plan, there is help. SingleCare prescription drug discount cards are available through United Way of Long Island.

Older Adult Home Modifications Program

Safe At Home For Seniors

Many people want the same things as they get older: to stay in their own homes or “age in place,” to maintain independence for as long as possible, and to turn to family and friends for help when needed. But many older adults and their families have concerns about safety, getting around, or other daily activities.

Mission United

Mission United is a critical funding source for programs of United Way of Long Island supporting U.S. military veterans and their families. Mission United funding helps provide services and resources in career training, employment assistance and emergency financial aid. Through Mission United, United Way is aligning existing services and creating solutions where there are gaps in support. The need for these services is particularly significant on Long Island as there are more than 80,000 veterans living in our communities.
