Capital One’s funding will help support this program that trains Long Islanders ages 16-24 and gives them the technical and life skills needed to begin entry level jobs that lead to careers. The grant will go toward providing workforce development that can open the doors to a wide range of career, empowering young people by providing them with skills to succeed.

“United Way would like to thank Capital One for its continuing support, its vision and commitment to bettering the lives of Long Islanders,” said United Way of Long Island President and CEO Theresa Regnante. “Few things are as important and rewarding as making a difference in young people’s lives, by helping them learn skills that can lead to fulfilment and financial security. Capital One’s contribution will help change young people’s lives and put them on paths to careers that otherwise might have been out of reach.”

YouthBuild builds confidence, careers and provides opportunities as participants work toward their high school equivalency diploma while learning essential job skills. Alumni have gone on to succeed as ironworkers, electricians, nursing assistants, home health aides, licensed practical nurses and in many more careers as well as college graduates.  The program also prepares people to work in the building trades, weatherization, offshore e wind, solar energy, manufacturing, customer service, medical billing, as dietary aides, in the hospitality industry, early childcare and in obtaining food manager certifications.

YouthBuild Long Island was founded in 2009 and has impacted nearly 400 young adults to date, changing lives and leading to new career paths. To learn more about United Way of Long Island’s YouthBuild program, visit www.unitedwayli.org/youthbuild-long-island.
