DanaJanuary 11, 2022 (Deer Park, NY) - United Way of Long Island recently elected Westbury resident, Dana R. Boylan, Esq., former Executive Director of Nassau County’s Office of Youth Services, to its Board of Directors.  In her immediate past role, she was responsible for funding, providing fiscal and administrative oversight, supporting youth development and prevention programs for over 40 nonprofit agencies.
Dana ensured that Nassau County’s commitment to positive growth and prevention was successfully effectuated and sustained.  She expanded the capacity of the office to address gaps and serve more youth in Nassau County by implementing first-time programs such as a career-exploratory summer youth employment program. She focused on reducing suspension disparities in Nassau County for minority youth and initiated the Nassau County Youth Council, which is made up of a diverse group of emerging youth leaders.  Dana also on-boarded additional organizations such as those missioned to serve marginalized LGBTQ youth or committed to reducing the widening technology gap through STEM programs.

As a former district attorney, she led the creation and implementation of an alternative-to-incarceration plea initiative that helped young adult offenders exit the criminal justice system and reduced their likelihood of re-entering the system through accessing a network of supportive services. Her frequent collaboration with community partners and other government entities helped to further enrich many youth programs and produce opportunities for youth.

“United Way of Long Island has a long history of helping the youth community. I am truly honored to be elected to the Board of Directors of an organization that shares my passion for positively impacting the lives of young Long Islanders,” remarked Dana.

Theresa A. Regnante, President and CEO of United Way of Long Island, emphasized, “Dana brings a passion for youth that complements our commitment to helping the most vulnerable and high-risk in our neighboring communities. Her mission is aligned with our mission of preparing the younger generations to reach their highest potential.”

Dana, a former Nassau County Assistant District Attorney, received her Juris Doctor Degree from Fordham University School of Law in 2004, after receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree from St. John’s University. For over 25 years, she has coordinated mentoring programs for youth and served as a motivational speaker about youth-related issues.
