United Together for First Responders
THE NEED
Health care professionals are part of backbone of the Long Island economy, and they are are putting their lives at risk to care for our neighbors affected by the current crisis. Many health care responders are working overtime or double-shifts, leaving little or no time to grab a meal during breaks. It is our mission to ensure that every person in every community remains safe and healthy.
At the same time, local businesses are struggling to make ends meet due to in-house dining closures and social distancing practices. By providing meals from family-run restaurants, we are helping boost the regional economy while giving thanks to our health care professionals.
WHAT WE'RE DOING
United Way is working with local restaurants to deliver meals to essential workers at hospitals across Long Island. Take-home meal kits are also provided, which allow hospital staff to make dinner at home and spend more time with their families. The initiative is the organization's way of giving back to those who are helping maintain the health and safety of the community at large.
