March 25, 2021 (Deer Park, NY) – People’s United Bank recently contributed $11,000 to United Way of Long Island’s Mission United in support of local veterans.
The grant funding allows United Way of Long Island to support 100 veteran and military families with Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), financial assistance to help meet unexpected and urgent needs, as well as connect veterans to a safety net of services through 211 Long Island.
“As part of our company's commitment to the health and financial well-being of our communities, People’s United Bank is pleased to support United Way of Long Island by giving back to the veterans who have been negatively impacted by the effects of COVID-19,” stated Steven G. Santino, Senior Vice President, Senior Growth Manager of People’s United Bank.
“The generosity of People’s United Bank ensures that our organization can continue helping veterans to get on a pathway to self-sufficiency. When these families are faced with limited resources, unexpected life events or employment challenges, we are able to walk beside them and offer assistance,” said Theresa A. Regnante, President & CEO of United Way of Long Island.
Mission United provides funding for services and resources to Long Island military veterans and their families. Of the more than 95,000 veterans on Long Island, approximately 1 in 3 lack sufficient savings to withstand a sudden loss in wages. Nearly 2,000 of these veterans are attending area colleges, but many have young families and are struggling to get by; in addition a large portion of veterans are seniors that have been isolated and especially vulnerable since the COVID-19 outbreak.
