United Way of Long Island recently elected Roslyn Harbor resident Victoria Schneps-Yunis to its Board of Directors. As founder of Schneps Communications, Victoria is Publisher/CEO of groups of weekly community newspapers, websites, events, and social media in Queens and Brooklyn.
“United Way of Long Island is one of the most influential organizations in the area, making a tremendous difference in the lives of Long Islanders,” said Victoria. “I look forward to being part that positive change.”
“Victoria has always had her finger on the pulse of the goings-on in hyperlocal neighborhoods, and understands the importance of making outreach extremely personalized,” added Theresa A. Regnante, President and CEO of United Way of Long Island. “Her connections and network, along with her passion for giving back to the community will be tremendous assets to our organization.”
Her work in the community includes Life’s WORC, the group she founded in 1971, that has grown to serve over 1,500 individuals with developmental disabilities and autism and is operates 40 group homes, 20 day programs and The Family Center for Autism. Ms. Schneps-Yunis continues to volunteer as a member of the board. She also serves on the boards of the Queens Museum of Art, Life’s WORC, Boys & Girls Club of Metro Queens, Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning and Flushing Bank.
She received her BS from New York University and her MS from Brooklyn College. Recently widowed, she is the proud mother of three surviving children, 4 step children and fourteen grandchildren.
