
Regaining Normalcy After Super Storm Sandy
On October 29, 2012, Super Storm Sandy hit Long Island and left a devastating impact in its wake.
Thousands of individuals and families were impacted by the storm's fierce winds and immense flooding. Beyond the power outages and flood waters that accompany super storms, Long Island families were left with deeper devasation... damaged utilies, rotted wood, mold, separation of family members and few options of places to live during home repairs. Today, families are still feeling the effects of Super Storm Sandy, many whose homes are still in a state of disrepair.
Thanks to the generous funding from the Robin Hood Foundation, United Way of Long Island has helped 750 families - and counting - repair and rebuild not only their homes, but their lives. Meet a few of the people we've helped:
