UNITED WAY OF LONG ISLAND NAMED HP+ BUILDER OF THE YEAR BY BASF CONSTRUCTION NORTH AMERICA

March 5, 2020 (Deer Park) - United Way of Long Island recently received the BASF Construction North America 2019 HP+ Builder of the Year award for Innovation and Leadership in Residential Construction. The organization was acknowledged during the 2020 International Builders’ Show, in recognition of its leadership and dedication to utilizing innovative building science practices.

Houses built by United Way of Long Island are particularly unique. These high performance, all electric houses run entirely from solar energy – hot water, ventilation, electric, heating and cooling systems - and are controlled with SmartTechnology resulting in the lowest possible operating costs. They are constructed with non-toxic materials, use technology that provides superior insulation and a continuous flow of purified air, all while utilizing the principles of Universal Design, which allows residents to age in place safely.

“United Way of Long Island is honored to be recognized by BASF,” stated Rick Wertheim, Senior Vice President of Housing and Green Initiatives at United Way of Long Island. “Our shared vision of building net-zero homes has resulted in a deep-rooted partnership. BASF exemplifies the top standard in energy-efficient materials, and by using their products in each of our residential constructions, United Way is able to create homes that are healthy, sustainable, and more comfortable all at an affordable cost to the home owner.”

“We are pleased to present the HP+ Builder of the Year award to United Way of Long Island. The organization exemplifies efficient use of materials to construct homes that are energy efficient, attractive, and affordable to maintain,” said Brad Townsend Residential Construction Manager at BASF.

“Fusion Architecture’s longstanding partnership with United Way is due to our shared commitment to meet the needs of the families and individuals who live in the homes we create. We develop quality designs that have functional and aesthetic relevance, while incorporating environmentally sustainable and green building design principles,” said Jean-Pierre Lardoux, Principal Architect at Fusion Architecture.

The BASF award expands upon United Way’s national recognition. The not-for-profit has received five awards from the U.S. Department of Energy for its commitment to building energy-efficient, high-performing and affordable homes. Ten projects are currently underway, each a certified Zero Energy Ready Home.
