Helping Long Islanders coping with health and economic emergency
May 6, 2020 (Deer Park) – United Way of Long Island’s “UNITED TOGETHER: A Response Fund For COVID-19” recently launched with contributions from leading supporters including a $25,000 gift from The AmerisourceBergen Foundation. The funding is enabling the not-for-profit to take immediate and continued action as well as act as a source of support to provide relief to thousands of Long Islanders in their time of need.
As many families are experiencing unexpected financial hardship, the Fund provides direct emergency financial assistance to help meet critical needs of food and household essentials.
“Due to the action from foundations like The AmerisourceBergen Foundation, we have already helped over 4,000 Long Islanders who have been unemployed or furloughed due to the effects of COVID-19,” said Theresa A. Regnante, President and CEO of United Way of Long Island. She added, “This generous contribution is ensuring that we can continue to help families, now and in the future, afford basic necessities while they are not receiving a paycheck.”
“At the AmerisourceBergen Foundation, we know the critical role nonprofit organizations play in addressing global health emergencies at a regional level. That is exactly why we’re proud to work with the United Way of Long Island to share resources that will ultimately lead to a sustained change and positive impact within the community during this unprecedented time,” said Susan Lorenz-Fisher, Program Officer, the AmerisourceBergen Foundation.
