The rapid growth of renewables depends on the industry finding enough employees with the right skills and experience. According to New York State, between now and 2027, the renewables industry will need an additional 10,000 blue-collar workers to develop, construct, operate, and maintain wind and solar plants.
The United Way of Long Island is meeting the significant challenges of hiring talent and eliminating barriers to economic advancement in the region through its Workforce Development Training Academy. Operating out of United Way’s state-of-the-art E3 SmartBuild Training Center, the academy is complete with a portable prototype wind turbine and solar array.
United Way of Long Island’s Workforce Development Training Academy provides free hands-on training focused on creating a foundation and pathways to secure careers in the renewable energy industry for Long Islanders.
Hands-on training is focused on clear, long-term career path development and complemented by online financial empowerment workshops. Power Up! Wind, Solar & Renewables graduates are proficient in the installation of clean heating and cooling technologies, high-efficiency HVAC, heat pumps, solar panels, and EV Charging. The training is open at no cost to youths, veterans, and others entering the job market.
