Company Joins Operation Rebuild and Recovery to Help Long Island Resident Rescue Personal Belongings
Deer Park, July 19th, 2013. On June 28th, 2013, employees from Janssen Biotech left the air conditioned solitude of their offices to help one of their neighbors rescue belongings from a flooded storage unit he was using to guard personal items damaged and displaced by Hurricane Sandy. Working side by side with team leaders from Americorps, St. Louis, volunteer staff from Janssen Biotech spent the morning at a storage facility in Farmingdale sorting through belongings to determine what could be saved and transporting them to another facility in Rockville Centre.
“This volunteer effort made us all stop for a day and really connect with our community and remember our Credo. I felt like, in addition to the work we do each day to help patients, that I was also able to help others in need," said one Janssen Biotech Employee. The family was extremely grateful and the volunteers so enjoyed the experience, they have asked United Way of Long Island to notify them when the family is ready to move back into their home so they can volunteer again.
Janssen Biotech, a division of Johnson & Johnson supports employee volunteerism throughout the year, including their National Volunteer Days.
